On June 27, Spreadtrum Communications, Inc., one of first short-listed enterprises of “Diamond Plan” of Tsinghua Science Park, and the manufacturer of Chinese TD-SCDMA chips, was listed in Nasdaq, with stock code of “SPRD”. The initial public offering of Spreadtrum Communications, Inc. was 8.9 million ADS, the issue price per share was 14 US dollars, exceeding the upper limit of offering share price range (the range of offering was USD 11-13), a total of USD 124.6 million were raised. The share price increased by 14% on the first day of its listing. 

Spreadtrum Communications is a Hi-Tech company established by overseas-Chinese-student; there are 727 employees at the moment. The company is mainly engaged in the development and marketing of new generation of special integrated circuit products and systems for wireless communication; it adopts innovative software and hardware framework and design method, and provides complete solution for the manufacturers and design companies of wireless communication terminals which can be quickly commercialized. From 2003 to 2006, the business incomes of Spreadtrum Communications were USD 2.4 million, 12.9 million, 38.3 million and 107 million, respectively. The business income in the first quarter of 2007 was USD 26.2 million, increasing by 33% year on year. The revenue of 2006 for its core product, Baseband Chip, reached USD 54.90 million, increasing by 12 times year on last year. The company made profits for the first time in the first quarter of last year. The net profit of last year was USD 14.4 million, and the net profit in the first quarter of this year reached USD 2 million.

Spreadtrum Communications, Inc. entered into Tsinghua Science Park in 2004. With its first core chips for GMS/GPRS mobile phone in Asia developed completely by itself, it became one of ten “candidate diamond enterprises” of Tsinghua Science Park in 2006.
