TusStar (Cairo) Opens a New Channel for China-Egypt Innovation CooperationPrint

On October 14, 2018, the opening ceremony of TusStar (Cairo) was held in Cairo, Egypt. This is the first incubation base of TusStar in Africa. About 200 representatives from China and Egypt attended the opening ceremony, including Mohamed Farid Khamis, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the BUE, Ahmed Hamad, President of the BUE, Yehia Bahel-ElDin, Vice President of the BUE, Herbert CHEN, COO of TusHoldings, and LIU Xueliang, Deputy General Manager of TusStar.


First, Mr. Mohamed Farid Khamis, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the BUE, offered his congratulations on the final establishment of TusStar (Cairo), and used two “mosts” to describe the significance of the university science park and the cooperation with TusHoldings in his speech: To build and operate a university science park and incubator is the greatest contribution that the BUE can make to Egypt’s social progress and economic development; China’s TusHoldings is the most ideal partner for the BUE to build and operate a university science park and incubator. Mr. Farid Khamis said that with the support and help of TusHoldings, the BUE had confidence to build and operate the university science park as the most successful and influential science park in Egypt and even in North Africa.
 

Herbert CHEN, COO of TusHoldings, recalled the cooperation between TusHoldings and Egypt in his speech and highly praised the pragmatism and high efficiency of the BUE. He said that it was a great honor to witness and participate in the process from the initial idea to the completion of the incubator during two years. In the following keynote speech, Herbert CHEN shared the experience of China in the field of science parks and the important role of science parks and incubators in social and economic development, and introduced TusHoldings’ triple helix business development model. “When interacting with the enterprises settling in the BUE Business Incubator, you can feel the passion and expectation of Egyptian young entrepreneurs and their desire for success. We have reason to believe that the BUE Science Park will become a successful science park under the full cooperation between the BUE and TusHoldings.” Herbert CHEN stressed.


Ahmed Hamad, President of the BUE, said in his speech that although the BUE was a young university, it had been committed to promoting industry-academy-research cooperation in recent years. From the incubator that has already been completed, to the science park that will be put into use at the end of the year, and to the BUE Industrial Park still under planning, they will provide full-cycle services for the transformation of scientific research achievements and interdisciplinary and cross-domain cooperation. Ahmed Hamad especially expressed his gratitude to TusHoldings for its participation in these links and comprehensive consultation and assistance in the fields of planning, construction, management and operation of science parks, and said that the two sides would continue to deepen cooperation in the future and contribute to technological innovation of the BUE and Egypt.

Subsequently, under the joint witness of Mr. Mohamed Farid Khamis, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the BUE, Herbert CHEN, COO of TusHoldings and the representatives of China and Egypt, LIU Xueliang, Deputy General Manager of TusStar, and Ahmed Saleh, General Manager of BUE Innovation Technology Park, Egypt, jointly unveiled the BUE Business Incubator.


Egypt is an important country along the “Belt and Road”, and the opening of TusStar (Cairo) has added another important node to the innovation layout of TusStar along the Belt and Road. While activating the local innovation and entrepreneurship factors, TusStar (Cairo) will also promote international cooperation among the countries along the Belt and Road through the interaction with other bases in the TusStar incubation network.

The full name of the BUE is the British University in Egypt. It was initiated by the MOU signed by the British and Egyptian governments in 1998, aiming to train graduates meeting the standards of the UK and talents in such key fields as engineering, IT and business. The university was established in 2005 and began to enroll students in September of the same year. At present, the BUE has more than 11,000 students on the campus, and 10 schools covering AEPS, engineering, information and computer science, dentistry, nursing, law, arts and humanities. The School of Engineering and the School of Dentistry and Nursing are the largest ones with more than 3,000 students, accounting for 1/3 of the total number of students. The BUE is both a comprehensive university and the top private university in Egypt.
