Chairman Jiwu WANG Has a Discussion Meeting with Former Canadian Prime Minister HarperPrint

On October 16, Chairman Jiwu WANG had a discussion meeting with former Canadian Prime Minister Harper, Canadian Ambassador to China McCallum and their entourage in TusPark on the theme of “Global Political and Economic Pattern and the Chinese-Canadian Relations, Cooperation and Opportunities in the Context of China-US Trade War”, seeking the ways for the cooperation between China and Canada in the fields of energy, education, agriculture, high technology, etc., and promoting the technological innovation cooperation between China and Canada to a new level. Wei SHAO, partner of Canada’s Dentons Law Firm, Changming YAN, President of Cadavisa New Materials and President of the Canadian Branch of the Western Returned Scholars Association, and Xiaoping XU, founding partner of ZhenFund, attended the discussion meeting.

Chairman Jiwu WANG welcomed the visit of former Prime Minister Harper, Ambassador McCallum and their entourage. He introduced the cooperation between TusHoldings and Canada by giving the examples of acquiring the Canadian listed company - Biorem, constructing an incubator with the University of Alberta jointly, and signing a contract of cooperation with the China-Canada Research and Innovation Center. Chairman Jiwu WANG elaborated how TusHoldings was promoting cooperation with the British Commonwealth of Nations by giving the examples of investing in TusPark Cambridge, cooperating with the University of New South Wales, Australia, and cooperating with India and Pakistan, and building incubators in Malaysia and Egypt. “As a comprehensive global organization, TusHoldings has set up 300 innovation bases around the world, and invested in or controlled 12 listed companies in Mainland China, the United States, Canada and Hong Kong, with its industrial layout covering almost all strategic emerging industries.” Chairman Jiwu WANG said, “As an increasingly internationally influential company, we look forward to expanding cooperation with Canada and are willing to listen to the opinions and suggestions of former Prime Minister Harper, Ambassador McCallum and their entourage.”

President Changming YAN introduced the development of Chinese students in Canada in recent years. According to him, the increase in the number of Chinese students studying in Canada is a sign of successful linking between China and Canada. He expressed gratitude to former Prime Minister Harper for his contribution during his tenure and proposed that in the face of changes, we should discover how to establish a new Chinese-Canadian relationship and work hard to find new ways and reach a new consensus.

Former Prime Minister Harper was glad that this was the sixth time he had come to China and the second time he had come to TusHoldings. He believed that China and Canada had established good relations in the fields of culture, commerce and education, and the two sides would establish more bilateral cooperation based on the principle of “mutual assistance and win-win cooperation”. “This time, we hope to discuss more about the cooperation in the fields of energy, education, agriculture and high technology, and create more cooperation opportunities for both sides to achieve greater results.”

Ambassador McCallum believed that in the future, Canada and China would strengthen cooperation in agriculture, energy and tourism. Attraction of direct investments from China and China’s purchase of more products and services from Canada are good ways of cooperation.

Xiaoping XU, who once studied in Canada, regarded Canada as his second hometown. He said that he was deeply impressed by Canada’s high-quality, complete education system. “Now we should continue to promote cooperation between China and Canada in the fields of education and innovation.”

During the discussion meeting, Reilly, Chairman of Canadian OPTrust, gave a detailed introduction to the business and global layout of Canadian OPTrust. Herbert CHEN, COO of TusHoldings and Vice President of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), introduced the global layout of TusPark and the development situation of the international science parks. Qing ZHAO, Vice President of TusHoldings, General Manager of Tus-Material Group, and Chairman of the Canadian listed company - Biorem, introduced TusHoldings’ layout in the new materials industry and the development situation of Biorem in the past two years. Wei HAN, University Cooperation Director of TusHoldings, Deputy General Manager of TusStar and the responsible person of TusStar Edmonton Incubation Base in Canada, introduced the “Incubation + Investment” model and the international cooperation layout of TusStar, and believed that TusHoldings was building a platform for the global flow of technology, capital, talents and projects. Zhuocun LIN, Vice President of Tus-S&T Service Group and General Manager of TusPark Cambridge, explained the business model of TusHoldings’ investment in TusPark Cambridge with the “multi-dimensional triple helix” theory, and introduced the development situation of TusPark Cambridge in detail.

At the end of the discussion meeting, former Prime Minister Harper once again said that today’s activity was meaningful, “I saw a very good company and team here.” Chairman Jiwu WANG proposed to establish a normal mechanism and received positive responses from all the meeting participants, so the “China-Canada Normal Mechanism Committee” working group was set up to jointly create a bright future for the cooperation between China and Canada and between China and British Commonwealth of Nations through more in-depth cooperation and exchanges.
