CIIC's Debut and Operation as the Venue of the First China-Israel Innovation Cooperation Conference Print

On the afternoon of April 4, the first China-Israel Innovation Cooperation Conference themed by “How to Promote the Development of Israeli Innovative Technologies in China” was held at CIIC in Zhongguancun International Innovation Building. The conference was co-sponsored by Zhongguancun Street Operations Management Co., Ltd. and Israel Compass Ventures. This is also the first time that CIIC has been unveiled and put into use after nearly two years of preparatory work from the date of contract signing for the establishment of CIIC in Tel Aviv in 2017.

Under the strategy of establishing “Innovative and Comprehensive Partnership” between China and Israel, the cooperation between China and Israel in the field of innovation is deepening. Beijing Zhongguancun (Haidian), also known as China’s Silicon Valley, is the core area in China’s innovation field, bringing together China’s top universities and research institutions and having a complete innovation ecosystem and active innovation talents. Israel is unique in technological innovation, known worldwide as a “Start-up Nation”. In this context, with the support of Haidian District Government and Haidian Park Management Committee, Zhongguancun Street Operations Management Co., Ltd. and Israel Compass Ventures jointly established CIIC (China-Israel Innovation Center), which aims to promote the sharing of technological innovation resources, complementarity of advantages and win-win cooperation between the two countries, and build an efficient cooperation platform for the enterprises in both countries to better serve the innovation exchanges between the two countries.

According to him, as both China and Israel have long histories and good environments & atmospheres for innovation, the two countries shall work together to promote the development of innovative technologies. “Israel has considered China as its largest trading partner in Asia and its third largest trading partner in the world after the EU and the United States, and will take this opportunity to enhance cooperation in technology transfer, technology exchange and implementation and transformation of advanced achievements in China. Zhongguancun is a very dynamic place, bringing together global high-quality innovation resources. And the companies and research institutes here have a very strong willingness to cooperate with Israel.” As DU Peng said, CIIC, jointly established by Zhongguancun Street Operations Management Co., Ltd. and Israel Compass Ventures, received strong support from Haidian District Government during the preparatory process. Many relevant government departments and associations in Beijing and Zhongguancun also expressed their concern and gave much guidance. The Center will continue to innovate in its mechanisms to maximize the vitality of innovation, give play to Zhongguancun’s radiation and leading role, and promote the development of global innovation and entrepreneurship. “CIIC established by us is an open platform to allow for the cooperation between the Chinese and Israeli governments, research institutions, investment institutions and innovation companies.”

Speech by Ronen Dagon, Board Chairman of Compass Ventures

Dr. Ronen Dagon, Board Chairman of Compass Ventures and Chairman of CIIC, gave a keynote speech at the conference on “How to promote the development of Israeli technological innovation in China”. He first expressed his gratitude to the Chinese friends who have made efforts for the establishment of the Center. As he said, CIIC is a cooperation platform built with joint efforts of Zhongguancun Street Operations Management Co., Ltd. and Compass Ventures. He would like to extend his special thanks to Haidian District Government and TusHoldings for their support, and the participation of other government departments, partners and investment institutions in Beijing and Zhongguancun. In the international cooperation context where opportunities and challenges coexist, he is full of confidence in the future of cooperation between China and Israel: The Center will deepen the multi-dimensional cooperation in the field of technological innovation, help Chinese companies to go out and Israeli companies to come in, and bring more technologies, talent resources and business opportunities to Haidian District and even China in the future.

Moshe Kamar, CEO of Compass Ventures, introduced the Israeli data center and the Israeli technology ecosystem.

Moshe Kamar, CEO of Compass Ventures, made a keynote speech about “Israeli data center and Israeli technology ecosystem”. He discussed how the Israeli data center had built a data support platform to provide innovation services for Israel by working with more than 5,000 companies, institutions and universities. He showed the participants in the form of graphs that in recent years, Chinese investment institutions had increasingly participated in the Israeli industrial financing transactions to promote the innovation and development of Israel. Moshe Kamar believed that the potential was great for high-tech investment cooperation between China and Israel. He proposed the investment of more and more Chinese companies in Israel by means of the Israeli technology ecosystem.

The guests who visited CIIC and participated in the Conference had a heated discussion on the topic of cooperation between China and Israel.

According to LIU Minhua, Deputy Director of the Beijing Talent Work Bureau, Israel is an important country for international cooperation in technological innovation in Beijing, and is thus expected to make more cooperation in the fields of biomedicine, information technology and agricultural technology. The construction of CIIC is just at the right time. It is hoped that the Center will become an important support platform for promoting innovation exchanges between the two countries. With the further cooperation between China and Israel in terms of talents, industries and investment, it will certainly generate a strong synergistic innovation power.

According to SHANGGUAN Wei, District Head Assistant of Haidian District, Haidian District is the core area of Zhongguancun and will thus further increased its proportion of international innovation synergy under the strategy of turning Beijing into a global innovation center. Israel is an important country of innovation in the world, taking the lead in terms of technological innovation in many fields. By means of the platform of CIIC, Haidian District welcomes more Israeli science and technology innovation institutions, innovation achievements and innovation companies to come to China and take advantage of the fertile land of innovation - Zhongguancun to grow and develop.

According to WANG Jiwu, Board Chairman of TusHoldings, TusHoldings has been committed to building a global collaborative innovation ecosystem. The purpose of Zhongguancun Street Operations Management Co., Ltd., jointly established by TusHoldings, Zhongguancun Development Group and Haidian District, is to contribute to the construction of the capital into a global innovation center. Today, the platform of CIIC is an innovative model of cooperation between Zhongguancun Street Operations Management Co., Ltd. and Israel, which has brought together the innovation power of various universities and research institutions in Israel and linked a large number of Israeli innovation companies and achievements. It is hoped that continuous implementation and expansion will be made on the basis of the platform model to promote mutual cooperation and exchange between China and Israel, and the two-way expansion of Chinese and Israeli technology innovation enterprises.

CIIC is located on the 15th floor of Haidian District International Innovation Center. It is said that the Center has brought together more than 1,000 Israeli high-tech enterprises engaged in a number of areas, such as information security, agricultural technology, life sciences, environmental protection and new materials. The Center will help Israeli companies in China to effectively launch their products through company entry services, exhibitions, etc., and provide one-stop integrated services and create high-quality and convenient channels for technical exchanges and cooperation between enterprises of the two countries through technology transfer and technology connection, company member guidance, entry service of Chinese and Israeli enterprises and other services.
