During the roundtable discussion, Mr Crawley outlined UKRI’s international strategy and its ongoing collaboration with China. As the UK’s principal public body for funding research and innovation, UKRI maintains four overseas offices, including one in China. Through close cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the UKRI China office has helped to foster a strong UK–China research partnership. This collaboration has underpinned a number of joint research and innovation initiatives addressing shared global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and food security.

Mr Lin extended a warm welcome to the visitors, noting that despite current global uncertainties, TusHoldings remains committed to promoting international innovation exchange and supporting the commercialisation of scientific achievements. He emphasised that the company will continue to deepen collaboration across sectors through its “Two Countries, Two Parks” model.

Mr Yang suggested that British universities and start-ups could draw on TusHoldings’ global innovation ecosystem to overcome commercial and cultural barriers, enabling them to engage more quickly and effectively with the Chinese market and resources.

Building on previous cooperation, the two sides then discussed potential areas for collaboration. They explored the possibility of organising exchanges in biomedicine, green technology, sustainable development and other areas of emerging innovation. They also considered ways of broadening cooperation at the funding level, thereby opening up fresh opportunities for partnership.

Before the talks, the UKRI delegation toured the TusHoldings Digital Exhibition Hall, gaining a detailed understanding of the history and development of TusHoldings and Tsinghua Science Park, including the establishment of its global incubation network and its track record in supporting high-tech enterprises.

The UKRI delegation also included Dr Daniel Brooker, Director of UKRI China; Sophie Durrans, Deputy Director; and Communications Lead, Kou Manhui. From TusHoldings, participants included Wu Jiahua, Investment Director of TusPark UK; Liu Zhenzhen, Director for China Affairs; and Tang Zi, China Affairs Manager.
