Large-quantity Supercritical Air Energy Storage Project Launched in TusPark (Erdos)Print

    On March 4, a signing ceremony between the government of Dongsheng District of Erdos and Institute of Engineering Thermophyics, CAS, on their cooperation on building “China Dongsheng Low-carbon Energy Technology Research Site” and “China Dongsheng Large-quantity Energy Storage Technology Institute (Institute of Engineering Thermophyics, CAS, Dongsheng office). Present at the ceremony were Mr. Luo Yonggang, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal CPC Committee and Secretary of Commission of the District, Mr. Bao Shan, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Dongsheng District, Mr. Lin Jian, District Head, Mr. He Tiejun, District Committee Chairman, Mr. Li Dong, Deputy District Head, Mr. Qin Wei, President of the Institute of Engineering Thermophyics, CAS, Mr. Tan Qingchun, Assistant to President of the institute, Mr. Chen Haisheng, Chief of the Office of Scientific and Technological Development, Dr. Wang Wenmei, and Deputy Director of TusPark (Erdos) Management Committee. Mr. Li Dong hosted the ceremony, and Mr. Lin Jian and Mr. Qin Wei signed the cooperation agreement.


    On March 9, TusPark (Erdos) actively started the industrialization of the project by organizing a investors’ conference among six parties including Institute of Engineering Thermophyics, CAS, Inner-Mongolia Power (Group) Co., Ltd., Beijing Yuanshen Energy-saving Technology Co., Ltd. (Beijing Energy Investment Holding Co., Ltd.), China Datang Cooperation Renewable Power Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Shuangliang Group, and the government of Dongsheng District. A decision has been reached on the conference that the six parties are going to make an investment up to 6 billion for an industrialized company, with the government provide preferential policies in terms of land, policies, and resource allocations. The investment and cooperation framework agreement was signed.


    The successful launching of the large-quantity supercritical air energy storage project in the Dongsheng District of Erdos is an initiative of the district on innovation on science and technology, as well as a successful trial of TusPark on developing new energies and an industrialized site for clean technology in resource-abundant Inner-Mongolia, and another successful record to TusPark in transforming key scientific and technological results. An agreement was reached between the Dongsheng District of Erdos and TusPark Co., Ltd. in November, 2009, with the objective of enhancing the innovative development of Erdos region with the rich resources of science and technology and talents in Zhongguancun. After the agreement had been reached, the two parties were devoted on the drawing up of preferential policies, creating software and hardware, choosing and utilizing the scientific and technological results from universities from the core areas of Zhongguancun and other regions according to the industrial structure and demand of the district. The launch of large-quantity supercritical air energy storage project in the Dongsheng District of Erdos was a discovery and decision of TusPark based on the recognition of rich traditional and new energy resources in Inner-Mongolia, the limitation of power combination to the grid, and urgent demand for energy storage technologies.

    Air energy storage is a technology that can allow the combination of intermittent powers including large-scale wind power and solar power to the grid. It is a key component of smart grid, as well as an effective solution to the bottleneck blocking the development of wind power and solar power generation.

    The Large-quantity Supercritical Air Energy Storage technology independently developed by the Institute of Engineering Thermophyics, CAS boasts the advantages of large-quantity energy storage, high efficiency, low investment, high-intensity of energy, no requirement of big storage devices, no limitation on storage cycle, compatibility to various types of power plant, safe and environmental-friendly. After several years of R&D, this technology has become a leading technology and the 1st in the world. It has obtained several invention patents home and abroad, and was listed into the 12th 5-year Plan of the National Energy Technology. It is now in the phase of demonstration and industrialization.
