November 11 – A delegation from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) visited TusHoldings and toured Tsinghua Science Park. Mr. Wang Jiwu, Chairman of TusHoldings, warmly received the guests and presided over a symposium. Both sides held in-depth discussions on topics including deepening Sino-British innovation cooperation, expanding collaborative fields, and improving cooperation mechanisms. This visit laid a solid foundation for high-level cooperation planning next year and is expected to elevate innovation collaboration between Chinese and British enterprises to a new level. Mr. Yang Ming, Vice President of TusHoldings, accompanied the delegation on the tour and participated in the symposium.

The UKRI delegation members included: Mr. Dean Cook, Executive Director for Place and Global at Innovate UK; Mr. Nathaniel Cooke, Global Programme Manager at Innovate UK; Mr. Daniel Booker, Director of UKRI China office; and Ms. Jiang Lin, Programme Manager at the UKRI China Office.

In his remarks, Dean Cook stated that a core purpose of Innovate UK, as a key part of UKRI, is to conduct forward-looking planning for next year's UK-China collaboration, with particular focus on helping British companies better integrate into the Chinese market. He emphasized that TusHoldings, as a significant player in China's innovation ecosystem, has already established a strong cooperative foundation with UKRI through its science parks in locations like Cambridge and Newcastle, UK. Joint initiatives like the Nanjing UK-China Cooperation Demonstration Project serve as successful models of government-enterprise collaboration. "We aim to build on existing cooperative platforms to create flagship projects in clean energy, agricultural technology, and at the intersection of health and climate," said Cook. "Simultaneously, leveraging cooperative networks with institutions like HSBC, we want to foster deeper interaction between UK and Chinese companies in fintech." He added that UKRI possesses an extensive UK innovation network and is willing to support Chinese enterprises and investors in connecting with various sectors across Britain. Daniel Booker supplemented that UKRI has already supported over 800 UK-China collaborative projects in China, with cumulative investment exceeding £500 million. These collaborations involve universities, research institutions, and enterprises, and stable cooperative relationships have been established with China's Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and local governments. He expressed particular interest in TusHoldings' park operation model, hoping to gain deeper insight into the operational mechanisms, internationalization pathways, and challenges faced by its incubating enterprises. This aims to explore new cooperative models like joint incubation, technology transfer, and cross-border investment, thereby creating two-way market access opportunities for businesses from both countries.

Wang Jiwu reviewed the long-standing friendly cooperation between the two sides. He highlighted that TusHoldings, having operated deeply in the UK for years with parks in Cambridge and Newcastle, has reached multiple cooperation consensuses with institutions like the UK Department for Business and Trade, the University of Cambridge, and Imperial College London. Currently, TusHoldings incubates over 20,000 enterprises in China and has built a mature "Twin Parks" cooperation mechanism leveraging its rich innovation resources. "UK enterprises can seamlessly access the network of bases in key Chinese locations like Nanjing through our parks in Cambridge and Newcastle, while Chinese companies can rapidly enter the UK market with the localized support of our UK team," Wang Jiwu stated. "This mechanism significantly reduces the communication and time costs associated with cross-border cooperation." He expressed strong alignment with UKRI's cooperation philosophy and willingness to deepen collaboration in key areas like clean energy, agricultural tech, and health tech. Wang Jiwu also proposed a cooperation approach guided by "market leadership with governmental support," emphasizing the core role of enterprises as innovation actors and the importance of government frameworks in enhancing the efficiency of innovation resource allocation. TusHoldings has established a complete local service team in the UK capable of providing full-chain services including park operation, technology transfer, and investment matching. Following this exchange, both sides will establish a regular communication mechanism to accelerate the implementation of key cooperative projects and jointly create a new benchmark for UK-China innovation collaboration.

During the talks, TusHoldings specifically invited representatives from its portfolio companies to engage with the UK delegation. These included Dr. Zhuang Zimin, Novogene Europe Product and Marketing Director; Dr. Cai Bowen, Chief Scientist of Shanghai Xiashu Intelligent Technology Co Ltd; and Mr. Chi Junchang, Head of Strategic Business Unit of Hisky Medical Technologies, all of whom held productive discussions with the UK delegates.
