TusHoldings and Trinity College, University of Cambridge, Jointly Open up a New Era of Sino-Britain Cooperation in the Field of Science ParkPrint

In 1970, Trinity College, University of Cambridge, established the first science park in Britain, starting the so-called “Cambridge Phenomenon”; in 1994, Tsinghua University commenced the construction of TusPark, and by learning from Cambridge and Silicon Valley it created the largest university science park in the world so far; in 2017, TusHoldings, the founder of TusPark, signed an agreement with Trinity College, University of Cambridge, to open up a new era of Sino-Britain cooperation in the field of science park. 
 

From exploration to demonstration and then to joint open-up of a new era, the “Cambridge Phenomenon” will go global from Britain, providing services for economic globalization with scientific and technological innovation; from learning to catching up and then to pioneering, TusHoldings has stood firmly in the east and become a flag and pioneer enterprise in scientific and technological service output of China. The cooperation between TusHoldings and Trinity College is a win-win co-operation between outstanding ones in scientific and technological innovation in these two countries, and is the first cooperation between China and Britain in the field of science park. Based on the cooperation, TusHoldings becomes an important strategic partner of Trinity College in development of science parks, and Cambridge Science Park, a world famous highland of scientific and technological innovation, will meet an accelerated period of upgrading and development. In the future, TusHoldings will bring into play its leading advantages in scientific and technological services, incubate and cultivate a batch of startup biotech enterprises by virtue of BioHub, a comprehensive biotech innovation carrier jointly built by the two parties, promote the development of local scientific and technological undertakings, and bring brand new opportunities of transnational cooperation. 


University of Cambridge and Tsinghua University have kept a long-term strategic cooperation, and have gathered leading academic and scientific and technological resources in the world. The cooperation between TusHoldings and Trinity College was initiated in 2016 – in August 2016 a delegation led by WANG Jiwu, Chairman of TusHoldings, visited University of Cambridge and proposed for the first time the idea of building modern Chinese science city in foreign countries. In November of the same year, a delegation of Trinity College, University of Cambridge paid a return visit to TusHoldings, and discussed about the cooperation between the two parties again with YUAN Wei, President of TusHoldings. 

In the future, Tsinghua University, TusHoldings and Trinity College will further deepen the cooperation in the field of academic affairs, innovation and entrepreneurship based on the jointly building science parks. TusHoldings will participate in other long-term cooperation projects of Cambridge Science Park with its global innovation network consisting of more than 200 high-tech industrial parks and incubation bases operated and managed by itself, so as to jointly build a global innovation ecosystem and promote the development of scientific and technological innovation in the world.

In November 1968, a working committee of University of Cambridge submitted the famous Mott Report, in which it was proposed to attract scientific and technological study-focused enterprises to Cambridge area by virtue of the reputation and strength of University of Cambridge. The report received wide support from the British government and the business circle. In 1969, University of Cambridge, a university with more than 700 years of history, took the lead in developing “university corporation”. In 1970, Trinity College, University of Cambridge, took out a land of 53 ha. for construction of Cambridge Science Park, and undertook the responsibility of promoting the interconnections between university and industry. Soon after that, University of Cambridge established a dedicated industrial liaison office to coordinate and promote the interconnection and cooperation among all colleges, departments, research institutes and personnel of this university and the industrial circle. This office accelerated establishment and derivation of scientific and technological companies, quickened commercialization of research findings, and called into being a tide of entrepreneurship of scientific and technological industrial parks.
